For the Regents exam, they only ask you to find a reaction that an element changes oxidation number. Regents redox reactions have a Free element on one side of a reaction and the same element bonded to something on the other side. Example- 2H2 + O2 --> 2H2O Free element ---> Bonded element example 2 2KClO3 --> 2KCl +3O2 Bonded oxygen ----> Free oxygen Not redox (ions) K+ + Cl- --> KCl watch out for the IONS That is all you need to know for this question Past Regents Redox Reactions Questions Aug 2008-42 Which equation represents an oxidation reduction reaction? June 2006-23 Which balanced equation represents a redox reaction? Aug 2004-26 Which reaction is an example of an oxidation reduction reaction? (1) AgNO3 + KI -->AgI + KNO3 (2) Cu + 2 AgNO3 -->Cu(NO3)2 + 2 Ag (3) 2 KOH + H2SO4 -->K2SO4 + 2 H2O (4) Ba(OH)2 + 2 HCl -->BaCl2 + 2 H2O Back to Redox Links |
